Why college athletes should be paid for their services

May 12, 2022

There are many reasons why college athletes should be paid for their services.

What is the main issue?

The main issue is that college athletes are not paid for their services, even though they generate millions of dollars in revenue for their schools.

College athletes should be paid because:

They generate a lot of revenue for their schools. This is the main reason why college athletes should be paid. College sports generate billions of dollars in revenue every year, and the athletes who play these sports are the ones who make it all possible.

Without college athletes, there would be no college sports. It's as simple as that. College athletes should be paid because they are the ones who make college sports possible.

They risk their health and safety. College athletes put their health and safety at risk every time they step on the field or court. They suffer concussions, broken bones, and other injuries that can have long-term effects on their health.

And yet, they don't get paid a dime for their efforts. If anything, they are actually paying to play through tuition and other fees. College athletes should be paid because they risk their health and safety for their sport.

They have no other source of income. College athletes are not allowed to work during the season, and many of them come from low-income families. As a result, they have no other source of income besides their scholarships (which don't cover everything).

This means that college athletes are effectively working for free. They should be paid because they are effectively working for their schools without any other source of income.

They miss out on opportunities to make money while in school. College athletes are not allowed to profit off of their own likenesses. This means that they can't sign endorsement deals or sell their autographs.

If they were able to do these things, they would be able to make a lot of money while in school. Instead, they have to wait until after they graduate to cash in on their own fame. College athletes should be paid because they miss out on making money while in school.

Paying college athletes would help to level the playing field. There is a huge disparity between the haves and have-nots in college sports. The schools that generate the most revenue (through ticket sales, merchandise, etc.) are able to attract the best players.

Lastly, they have very little control over their careers. College athletes have very little control over their careers. They can be kicked off the team at any time, for any reason. And, if they get injured, their scholarships could be taken away. In other words, their entire future is in the hands of their coach and the school.

In conclusion, there are many reasons why college athletes should be paid for their services. They generate a lot of revenue for their schools, risk their health and safety, have no other source of income, and miss out on opportunities to make money while in school.
