Who caused the death of Romeo and Juliet

May 23, 2022

This assignment looks into who was most responsible for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet. I will be discussing whether it was fate, the decisions made by Romeo and Juliet or the people around them that led to their demise.

The story of Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. It is a story about two young lovers from feuding families, the Capulets, and the Montagues. Romeo Montague falls in love with Juliet Capulet, who is due to marry County Paris. Romeo gets exiled. Juliet fakes her death in a plan to be reunited. Romeo believes Juliet is truly dead and kills himself. Juliet finds Romeo’s corpse beside her and kills herself.

Fate could be seen as one of the main reasons for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet. It could be said that it was their destiny to die together. Their relationship was doomed from the start because they were from opposing families. If Romeo had not met Juliet, he would have married someone else and been happy. If Juliet had not met Romeo, she would have married County Paris and been content.

The decisions made by Romeo and Juliet also contributed to their deaths. If they had not fallen in love, they would not have gotten into the situation where they had to make life-changing decisions. For example, if Romeo had not killed Tybalt, he would not have been exiled. If Juliet had not agreed to marry County Paris, she would not have been forced to decide to fake her death.

The people around Romeo and Juliet were also responsible for their deaths. The feud between the Capulets and Montagues was the root of the problem. Romeo and Juliet would have never met if they had not been fighting. Additionally, if Friar Lawrence had not come up with the plan for Juliet to fake her death, Romeo would not have killed himself. Finally, if Nurse had not given Juliet the wrong information about Romeo’s exile, Juliet would not have gone to the tomb and killed herself.

In conclusion, no one person is solely responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. It was a combination of fate, their decisions, and the people around them.
