The role of managers in the workplace: When do they become intrusive

Jun 20, 2022

This assignment seeks to explore the role of managers in the workplace and to determine when their involvement becomes intrusive to the workflow of employees. In order to do this, the essay will firstly look at what is meant by effective management and explore how different management styles can impact employee productivity. It will then go on to discuss how line managers can become intrusive, before looking at possible solutions to this problem.

It is widely accepted that effective management is vital to the success of any organization. After all, it is managers who are responsible for setting goals and ensuring that employees are working towards these goals. Furthermore, effective management also involves creating a positive working environment where employees feel motivated and valued. There are a number of different management styles which can be adopted in order to achieve these objectives. For example, some managers may prefer to take a more hands-on approach and be heavily involved in the day-to-day running of the team. Others may adopt a more laissez-faire approach and give employees more freedom to work independently.

While different management styles can impact employee productivity, it is also important to consider how line managers can become intrusive. In some cases, managers may be so focused on achieving their own goals that they start to micromanage employees and become overly involved in their work. This can often lead to employees feeling demotivated and unvalued, which can in turn adversely affect productivity levels.

There are a number of possible solutions to this problem. Firstly, it is important for managers to ensure that they are clear about their own goals and objectives. This will help to prevent them from becoming too involved in the work of their employees. Secondly, managers should try to create a positive working environment where employees feel valued and appreciated. Finally, it is also important for managers to provide employees with regular feedback so that they can identify any areas where they may be intruding on their work. By following these steps, managers can help to ensure that they are providing effective leadership without becoming intrusive.
