This paper describes Parkinson's Disease, including its categories, causes, symptoms, and treatment.
There are two main categories of Parkinson's Disease; primary and secondary. Primary Parkinson's Disease is the most common form and is caused by a progressive loss of cells in the brain that produce dopamine. Secondary Parkinson's Disease can result from another condition such as inflammation or injury to the brain.
Common symptoms of Parkinson’s include tremors, slower movement (bradykinesia), impaired balance (postural instability), difficulty in speaking and swallowing, stiffness of muscles or limbs, depression or anxiety. Other less common symptoms include excessive sweating, pain when walking and fatigue.
Treatment for Parkinson’s disease depends on the severity of the symptoms. Medication can help to manage some of the symptoms and can also prevent further deterioration of nerve cells in the brain. Surgery may be offered, usually when medication is no longer effective. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and other forms of rehabilitation can also be beneficial in helping people maintain independence and quality of life.
In conclusion, Parkinson's Disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects movement and balance. It has two main categories - primary and secondary - with different causes and varying symptom severity. Treatment options vary depending on individual needs but are typically focused on managing symptoms while preventing further decline in function. By understanding the types, causes, symptoms, and treatments for this disorder, we can better support individuals affected by Parkinson’s
