This research paper explores how the invention of gunpowder changed the art of war in the Middle Ages. Gunpowder was first invented in China around the 9th century AD, and it slowly spread to Europe via the Silk Road. initially, it was only used for fireworks, but eventually, European countries started using it for warfare.
Gunpowder revolutionized warfare because it made fortifications much less effective. Previously, castles and city walls could withstand almost any siege because attackers couldn't penetrate them with their weapons. However, gunpowder changed that because cannons could easily destroy walls. This meant that cities were much more vulnerable to attack, and fortifications became less important.
The invention of gunpowder also led to the development of new weapons like muskets and pistols. These weapons were much more effective than the old weapons like swords and bows. They could shoot much farther and penetrate armor more easily. This made medieval warfare much more deadly.
Overall, the invention of gunpowder changed the art of war in the Middle Ages by making fortifications less important and by developing new, more effective weapons. Gunpowder made warfare much more deadly and destructive. It is one of the most important inventions in history.
