This research paper discusses how racism has changed the way we communicate with each other. It is important to first understand how communication was effected by racism in the past in order to see how it has changed in the present day.
In America, before the civil rights movement, racist attitudes and behaviors were considered normal and even accepted by many people. People of color were discriminated against in every area of life, including in the way they were spoken to and treated by others. This was especially true for African Americans, who were subjected to Jim Crow laws that kept them separate from whites and denied them basic rights like voting and education.
Racism also affected the way people communicated with each other on a daily basis. For example, white people would often use racial slurs when talking to or about black people. This made it difficult for blacks and whites to communicate with each other on a level playing field.
Today, racism is no longer as openly accepted as it once was. While there are still some people who hold racist attitudes, they are in the minority. Thanks to the civil rights movement and other social justice efforts, people of color now have more rights and opportunities than ever before.
However, racism still affects the way we communicate with each other. In many cases, it is now hidden beneath the surface instead of being openly displayed. For example, some people may not want to talk to someone from a different racial group because they feel uncomfortable or think that they will not be able to relate to them. This can make it difficult to have open and honest conversations about race.
Despite the challenges, it is important to keep trying to communicate with people from different racial backgrounds. Doing so can help to break down barriers and improve understanding. It can also lead to new and interesting perspectives on the world around us.
