This assignment examines how organizational leaders can enhance productivity. It will begin with a review of the relevant literature, followed by an exploration of how different leadership styles can affect productivity. Finally, it will conclude with some recommendations for organizational leaders who wish to enhance productivity in their organizations.
Organizational leaders play a critical role in determining the productivity of their organizations. Productivity is a measure of how efficiently an organization produces output relative to inputs (Mankins & Steele, 2005). Organizational leaders can influence productivity through their choices about how to allocate resources, set goals, motivate employees, and manage organizational processes (Borchardt, 2012).
Leadership style is one important factor that can affect productivity. Leaders who adopt an authoritarian style may be more likely to achieve short-term results, but they may also foster resentment and resistance among employees (Borchardt, 2012). Leaders who adopt a participative style, on the other hand, may be more likely to build commitment and buy-in from employees, leading to higher levels of productivity over the long term (Borchardt, 2012).
There are a number of other factors that can affect productivity in organizations. For example, the organizational culture can either support or hinder productivity (O'Reilly & Pfeffer, 2000). The physical environment in which work takes place can also impact productivity, with studies showing that factors such as lighting and temperature can have an effect on employee performance (Kropp & Lindstrom, 2011).
Organizational leaders can enhance productivity in their organizations by paying attention to the factors that influence it. By carefully choosing a leadership style that takes into account the unique needs of their organization, and by creating an organizational culture and physical environment that support productivity, leaders can make a significant difference in the performance of their organizations.
