After years of being under fascist control, Italy has become one of the most visited countries in the world.
Its transformation can be attributed to several factors:
Rich History and Culture
Italy is home to some of the oldest cities in Europe, and its culture has been influential throughout the world. From the Roman Empire to the Renaissance, Italian art, architecture, and cuisine have left a lasting mark.
Furthermore, Italy is home to 51 World Heritage Sites – more than any other country in the world. With so much to see and do, it’s no wonder that Italy is one of the most popular tourist destinations.
Beautiful scenery
From the snow-capped Alps in the north to the sun-drenched Mediterranean coastline in the south, Italy has something for everyone. Add in picturesque villages, rolling hills, and centuries-old vineyards, and it’s easy to see why Italy is such a popular destination.
Great food and wine
Italian cuisine is world-renowned, and for a good reason. From pizza and pasta to gelato and tiramisu, there are endless delicious options to choose from. And of course, no visit to Italy would be complete without sampling some of the local wine.
Fascist Italy, which was in power from 1922 to 1943, was a dictatorship led by Benito Mussolini. Under Mussolini’s rule, Italians experienced strict censorship, propaganda, and a loss of personal freedoms.
However, despite the hardships of living under fascism, Italians still managed to enjoy some aspects of life. For example, the government invested heavily in the arts, and Italians were able to take advantage of new leisure activities such as skiing and beach holidays.
After the fall of fascism in 1943, Italy began to rebuild itself. The country slowly started to open up to the rest of the world and became a popular tourist destination. Today, Italy is a thriving democracy with a rich culture and history that continues to attract visitors from all over the world.
Previously, the fascists had aspired to make Italy the world’s greatest empire and to that end, invested in its infrastructure and culture.
However, after the war, these same features became some of the country’s biggest selling points to tourists.
The art, architecture, food, and wine that Italians had long enjoyed became some of the main reasons why people from all over the globe decided to visit the boot-shaped country.
