Analysis on Little Fires Everywhere Book

This assignment is an analysis on the book Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. In this analysis, I will be discussing the character development of the protagonist, Mia Warren.

Mia Warren is an artist and single mother who rents a duplex from Mrs. Richardson in Shaker Heights, Ohio. When we first meet Mia, she is described as being elusive and mysterious. She is a woman who keeps to herself and doesn't let anyone get too close. However, as the story progresses, we see Mia start to open up more. She forms a close bond with Pearl, one of the Richardson daughters, and begins to feel like she belongs in Shaker Heights.

We see Mia's character grow throughout the course of the novel. She becomes more confident and assertive, standing up for herself and her daughter when they are treated unfairly. Mia is a complex and multi-dimensional character, and I believe Celeste Ng did an excellent job of developing her over the course of the novel.

Little Fires Everywhere shows the different sides to motherhood. Mia is a single mother who does whatever she can to provide for her daughter. She is also fiercely protective of Pearl, and we see her fight for her when she feels like Pearl is being mistreated. On the other hand, we have Mrs. Richardson, who is a stay-at-home mother with four children. While Mrs. Richardson loves her children, she also has a tendency to be overbearing and controlling.

Both Mia and Mrs. Richardson are complex characters, and I think Celeste Ng did a great job of exploring the different aspects of motherhood through their relationship.

While Little Fires Everywhere is primarily about motherhood, it also deals with other themes such as race and class. The novel takes place in Shaker Heights, which is a predominantly white, upper-middle-class suburb. We see the disparities between the Richardsons and the Warrens, who are a family of color living in poverty. The Warrens are constantly treated as second-class citizens, and Mia has to fight for her daughter's rights on multiple occasions.

Celeste Ng does an excellent job exploring these themes in a nuanced and thought-provoking way.
