Advantages and disadvantages of the community like in The Giver

May 22, 2022

This assignment explores the advantages and disadvantages of the community in The Giver.

Advantages of the Community

The community provides its members with all the basic necessities of life. This includes food, shelter, clothing, and medical care.

The community also offers its members a great deal of security. There is no crime or violence in the community. Everyone follows the rules and respects the authority figures. This makes the community a very safe place to live.

Additionally, people in the community have a lot of free time to pursue their hobbies and interests. They are not burdened by the need to work long hours to make a living.

Disadvantages of the Community

The community is a very restrictive place. Everyone must follow the rules, and there is no room for individual expression.

People in the community are also not allowed to experience strong emotions. They take medication to suppress their emotions and prevent them from feeling pain or happiness.

Additionally, the community does not allow people to form close relationships with others. People are assigned to families, but they do not choose their own spouses or have any say in who their children will be. This lack of choice can be very frustrating for people who live in the community.

The community does not allow its members to experience any emotions or sensations. This includes both positive and negative emotions. For example, people in the community are not allowed to feel happiness or love.

The community also does not allow its members to experience any kind of physical sensation. This means that people in the community cannot feel pain or pleasure.

The lack of emotions and sensations makes life in the community very dull and monotonous.
